WELCOME TO PATHWAYS OF HISTORY
A new website for the study of History in schools. It is the intention of PathWays to offer teachers and students in schools reliable, interesting and useful tools and resources which may be integrated into classroom lessons and which will promote the use of technology in the History classroom.
PathWays is produced by Alan Thomas, a retired teacher with 32 years experience of teaching History in classrooms at Years 7 through 12, beginning with Belmont High School (Geelong, Victoria), then Parkdale Secondary College (Mordialloc - Bayside - Victoria), and finally as Head of History at The Geelong College Senior School (Newtown, Geelong, Victoria).
At the last, he met two people who would inspire him to explore in depth the application of online learning to the study of History. The first was Harry Roberts, then Coordinator of History & Geography at The Geelong College Preparatory School. The second was Nathan Hunt, then in the ICT Department at the Senior School, whose support and encouragement saw Alan exploring full online Examinations at Years 9 and 10. Together, with the valuable assistance of the College's burgeoning ICT Department, they engaged in developing rudimentary Virtual Learning Environments for History classes between Years 8-12.
This was the genesis of PathWays. Alan retired from teaching in 2005 and has spent much of his time since developing PathWays as a resource for teachers and students of History, along with some other projects.
